Charity Bike Wash 2015

                                     

Every year, we did our charity wash to raise donations for a certain organisation in Singapore. We have chosen this year organisation to be Singapore Association for the Deaf located at Mountbatten Rd. With the combined efforts of our NRC members and FW1 volunteers, we had a successful fund raising. This is our team:

ASRC-Advance Safety Riding Course 2015

On the 06 December 2014, 7 riders from NTU and NTU alumni reported to SSDC to attend on a course that was worth remembering. Contradictory to many people’s belief that safety course would be full of theories;
SSDC has proven to the participants that this course is full of action and fun. We started off by a theory lesson that was taught by Instructor Iman. He showed us on the statistic of the number of accident, the fatality rate and the cause of accident involving riders on the road. It was a very brief session that lasted for an hour. However it has made us realize how important and vulnerable we are on the road. He even explained to us the importance of Personnel Protective Equipment (P.P.E) which should be worn by rider to protect their lives on the road.

Next, we proceeded to level 5, where Instructor Low explained to us the various pre-ride checks before riding and various techniques in lifting up a bike in a case if the bike falls off. All this pre-checks were not taught by anyone in school before I got my licence and it was an important lesson which I had learnt after this course.

Next, the riders got onto their respective bikes and the practical course officially started. It was memorable as the riders were able to practice various cornering technique such as lean in, lean out, and lean with in figure 8 and crank course. The balancing of bikes with the engine been shut off was one of the difficult areas which most of the riders had a hard times with. By practising those techniques our self would be the best way to hone our skill and boost our confident in bike handling.

Next, we moved on to emergency brakes but this time it was slightly different. The instructor wants us toexperience how a bike slid and he shows us how to do it. At first, everyone was hesitant to try asmost ofthem had not experience how a bike fish tail before and afraid they might fall off. However, with the correct techniques and confident, everyone manage to pulled off the emergency brakes. It was no doubt one of the favourite and fun areas for most riders. It was really fun and exciting. The most enjoyable activity of the day would be the obstacles cornering course where riders can ride on bigger bikes based on their licence and completing the course in the fastest time. There were many cones all over the areas and our cornering skills were put to test. The instructor shows us once with his timing and he want to see if any of us could beat his timing.

The ASRC overall was a success with everyone enjoying themselves on that day. It provides us the

opportunity to learn from the instructors, hone our skill in bike handling as well as understand the safety of what the riders should know.

To sum up everything, this is a fantastic and enjoyable course that I will remember deeply. It is a course where you can build your bike confidence level and not compromising safety. I will definitely encourage my friends to join this course if they are a rider.
