Freshman Orientation Camp 2013

NRC held its Freshmen Orientation Camp on the 20th of July 2013. The aim of this camp is to welcome new students to NTU riders community, stress the importance of safe riding and to familiarize them with the landmarks within the campus.

The day began with some simple ice breakers and introduction for the freshies to know each and everyone of us in the club and vice versa. I supposed this marked the start of our friendship. Without further a do, there was a warm welcome speech by our very own President of NRC to talk about the activities that were organised by our club such as the charity bike wash last year,  followed by a Road Safety talk to emphasize the importance of riding safely. Just like what the road slogan says " The best drivers are aware that they must beware", it is very important to ride safely while one is at anywhere or rather, everywhere. One must bear in mind that road safety is the cheapest and most effective insurance.

Simple games like guessing the different models of the motorcycles when the sound of the engine was started and when pictures of motorcycles were shown were conducted to lighten up the atmosphere during our FOC.

After having a quick lunch at Canteen 2, our Amazing Race began. Charades and TABOO were played among the freshies at ADM and SAC respectively. Apart from just having fun, a brief bike theory test was also carried out outside the Nanyang Auditorium to ensure that all the freshies are aware of road safety

Soon after, we hopped on our bikes to NTU Chinese Heritage Center to have a better understanding of how NTU was set up and to advance knowledge and understanding of ethnic Chinese communities in different parts of the world. We then departed from there and went to SRC to play the "Memory Game" to hype up the mood among the freshies once again.

Last but not least, we were back at Nanyang House for our game,  " The CGPA Calculations" . This is a game where the freshies were to calculate the CGPA when different scenarios of academic performance were given to them. After spending a long day riding from Nanyang House to various locations around the school to familiarize with the campus, the FOC was wrapped up with  the distribution of goodies bags and prize presentation. Attractive prizes such as Aramusha Full-Face Helmet, GripLock, MOTORBATT and Wing Yap's Motor service vouchers were won by our freshies.

Here are some of our highlights of the FOC!

Our club would like to thank all participants for taking the time to join our camp and we sincerely hope everyone did have lots of fun during the camp!

We would also like to thank all our sponsors namely Wing Yap Motor, JAD Global, Helmetboys and  Bike Studio for providing us with such great items to make our FOC a successful one.

See you around NTU! Vrrrrroooooooooom!
