NRC Bikefest 2012

Bike Fest 2012, held over two days in NTU, had the objectives of promoting safety riding and riders awareness in school. The event spanned over two days at two different venues, reaching out to more students and staff in this manner. New members were recruited and will subsequently be invited to future club events, fostering stronger bonds in the community.

For this event, external vendors were also engaged. The turn out by Traffic Police, Bukit Batok Driving Center and Harley-Davidson Singapore (HDS) and their interactive displays were impressive, and fulfilled the message of safer motoring as well as created excitement for our festival. On-site representatives actively introduced campus community to various simulators and encouraged participation – crowd involvement was enhanced. Finally, unlike previous years, we invited Professor Bertil Andersson, NTU’s incumbent president, to grace the event.

In a nut shell, the event was a success. We saw greater levels of interest in the event this year, and it translated to better sales, more member sign-ups and enhanced crowd participation.

HIGHLIGHTS/ WHAT’S NEW

The highlight of our event would be the Harley-Davidson simulator, a real Harley-Davidson bike secured to a frame, which we invited everyone to try with or without license. For safety reasons we had to limit participants to those wearing long pants and covered shoes, but the simulator was awe-inspiring and the expressions of the participants were priceless.

For this event, we took a different slant from previous festivals and decided to draw attention to HDS and their merchandise and promotions in exchange for more support from them. They gained by exposing themselves commercially to our students and staff, and we gained some benefits too as they did not hold back by offering ideas as well as support for our festival. Such partnerships can definitely be considered again in the future.
