NTU Riders Club Charity Bike Wash 2011

SUMMARY

On December 17th 2011, NTU Riders Club held an annual Charity Bike Wash for the Spastic Children's Association of Singapore at the Cerebral Palsy Centre in Pasir Ris. The aim of this event is to raise awareness and donations for these children and help them out by washing bikes to raise funds.

NTU Riders Club would like to thank all those who came down and made it possible. Also a big thanks to the volunteers who were willing to lend a helping hand on a Saturday. You guys are the best. It was great to see how people from different backgrounds with the same interest, commute together in the name of charity and made the event lively. In short, it was DAEBAK!!!!

BBDC Ride Safe - 2 Oct 2011

INTRODUCTION

NTU Rider’s Club (NRC) members participated in the annual Bukit Batok Driving Centre (BBDC) Ride Safe event organised in conjunction with Traffic Police. This exciting half-day event aims to increase rider awareness of safety and the importance of skills training.

Over 20 riders turned up to represent NRC the event, and they were exposed to critical concepts such as the negative effects of alcohol on the human body and correct pillion techniques. By investing their time with us, participants learned key lessons on road safety and riding techniques, fostered stronger bonds with fellow NTU riders, and got to know the club a little better.

HIGHLIGHTS
Our very own, Chan PengLi, won the Wear Safe prize for riders who dressed in the appropriate riding attire among the estimated 300 riders who attended. The prize was handed to him on stage personally by the event Guest-Of-Honour, Mr S Iswaran, Minister in Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade & Industry.

Other than winning this prestigious prize, participants were all exposed to many exhibits held inside the compound of BBDC. This is a departure of the practices of previous years where riders had to ride around Bukit Batok to visit the various exhibits and demonstrations. The new event format allowed riders to focus more on learning and relearning various tips, skills and advice.

WHAT DID OUR MEMBERS HAVE TO SAY?

“It was a fruitful event. It reminded me once again the vulnerabilities of being a rider, so we have to be constantly aware of our surroundings.” - Wong HongJun, Danne

“It brings me joy to see fellow riders gaining a deeper understanding of the basics of controlling their motorcycle. A good example would be the braking station where riders were shown the effects of not applying their brakes in the proper manner. i.e.: both front and rear simultaneously. I am looking forward to spread the knowledge with fellow riders.” – Andre Tan

“Ride safe was great. I had fun. It improved my riding safety, and we should definitely organise this event again next year.” – Li Lemin

“Ride Safe 2011 was a great chance for me to know more about riding safely and also to be more aware of road conditions. It also gave me a chance to interact with other riders and chat with them regarding bikes and riding in general. I also had a chance to ask the BBDC instructors regarding safety riding and pillion safety. Overall, a good event and I hope BBDC will organise it again next year!” – Jevan Goh

SPECIAL THANKS

NRC will like to thank BBDC and Traffic Police for extending an invite to us. Our members had a great time and we look forward to supporting Ride Safe in future years!
