NTU Bike Fest 2013

On the 8 February 2013, NRC organised our annual event, the Bike Fest at Canopy K in NTU. The objectives of this event is to promote safe riding and riders awareness in the school.

For the event, we had engaged Traffic Police, Bukit Batok Driving Center and Harley-Davidson Singapore (HDS) to showcase their interactive simulator displays. Their attractive displays indeed engaged many students to try out the simulators and promoting safer road safety to our campus community. Beside that, Helmetboys and Al-De Moto Accessories was also present on that day to promote their products and merchandises.

In conclusion, Bike Fest 2013 was a success. We had notice that there were an increase number of participants who had stepped forward to try out the simulators. In addition, we had also received many positive feedback on the event and looking forward to our next NRC's events.

Here are some of the highlight photos :)

Malacca Trip: 6 - 7 January 2013

Day 1

Briefing by Teik Yong

We met up at woodlands at 7am. Headed out to checkpoint at about 8.30am.

Two customs... CLEAR!

We entered a highway for a short period of time and exited into trunk roads.

There wasn't much sceneries as we thought although we were near the coastal line. Houses and schools separated us from the beach.

On the way to Malacca, we decided to drop by a hot spring to check it out and see what's it like there. We rested and took a short break after checking the hot springs out. On the way out and back to the main road, Jun Jie experienced an unexpected problem. His chain fell off the rear sprocket and we stopped at the side of the road to fix the problem. We spent quite awhile fixing it and were back on the road shortly. Upon reaching the first bike workshop, we stopped to get a qualified mechanic to repair and fix Jun Jie's chain and sprocket.

Finally reached Malacca!

The rest of the ride was smooth and we stopped by some places of interest to take photos. After which, we checked into our hotel rooms.

We unpacked and had dinner at A&W at a nearby shopping centre as well as doing a little bit of shopping and sight-seeing. We visited the famous night market in a lane filled with shopping and food. It was quite a scene with the people and stalls there. We ended the day with a good massage at the nearby parlours and supper at a cafe.

Day 2

We got up to have chicken rice ball lunch but were disappointed that we were too early and there wasn't any rice balls at that time. There was no choice but to settle for just chicken rice instead. Nevertheless, it was a good meal before we headed back to Singapore.

All ready to hit back to Singapore!

Last group photo before leaving Malacca

On the way back, we split into 2 groups - first group was going slow and enjoying the ride while the other was speeding into the horizon and savouring the speed, power and agility of their rides. Unfortunately, another unexpected problem occurred. Bin Ming joined the speedy group and raced off with the group only to be found at the road shoulder not too far down the North-South Highway. His piston jammed and the rest of us tried to restore his bike back into riding condition. We attempted push-starts and kick-starts but to no avail. We then pushed it to the nearest city and tried to remedy the problem at a local bike workshop. He had his bike towed back to Singapore from there.

Thankfully, no one was hurt and Lester gave Bin Ming a ride back home. The rest of us took a slow ride home.

Overall, it was a great trip and we all enjoyed ourselves. Looking forward to the next one soon!

On top of that, it is also another platform for our sponsors to showcase their products.

The event began with a welcome speech by our NRC President, Mr Liew Teik Yong, at the starting point, the Nanyang House. After the welcome speech, Mr Liew continues with the briefing on the Biker Challenge as well as conduct safety checks before flagging off.

FOC 2012 - One Amazing Ride

NRC held its Freshmen Orientation Camp on the 21st of July 2012 for the AY 2012 - 2013. The aim of this camp is to introduce new students to NTU's motorcycle community, inculcate the importance of safe riding, and to familiarize them with important landmarks in the campus.

The day began with a talk conducted by our very own Road Safety Ambassador, NRC Business Manager Koh Wee Yong, on the topic of protecting oneself while on the road.

After that we proceeded from Nanyang House to various locations around the school, such as ADM, SSC, NIE and SRC. Showing the freshmen these locations familiarized them with NTU's campus, helping them to navigate around the school in the future.

We also visited NTU's Chinese Heritage Centre to learn more about NTU's history, since its beginnings when it was still known as Nanyang University back in 1955. The freshmen left enriched with the knowledge of NTU's formation.

Post Examination Mini-Melaka trip 2012

After the hectic semester of 2012, 3 of our members decide to take a relax trip up to Melaka. We show that small class 2-B bike can also "tour".  Despite the fact that it took them more than the usual amount of time for them to travel to Melaka, they made it there and back safe and sound  =].

Dam Good Nite 2012

Once again NRC organised Dam Good Nite on 3rd March 2012. The convoy flag off from Nanyang House and travel towards various dams and parks along the northern coast line of Singapore. The event end with a "makan" session at Tebing Lane, where even most of the "easterners" will not be aware of this place. We hope that the riders had enjoyed this simple event and hope that more riders will join us for future riding events.
